Which arrangements of problems do you prefer? I hope the paper will appear as the one below: 1. Miscellaneous 2. Inequality 3. Combinatorics 4. Geometry 5. Number Theory

and how difficult you expect? I hope it will not be the 99 one

最好係咁…

I like this one : 1. Combinatorics 2. Number Theory 3. Miscellaneous 4. Geometry 5. Inequality

最好d題目係我見過而其他人未見過,and 我識做其他人唔識做 (though it is impossible )

btw what is “99 one”?

1. Geometry 2. Number theory 3. Miscellaneous 4. Inequality 5. Combinactorics It’s the best if only me can do the inequality and no one can finish the combinactorics, but that’s impossible haha… of course i hope the geometry problem is the easiest one otherwise it will be beneficial to “me”…

by the way, wt do u think about the cutting scores this yr?

“99 one” means APMO 1999, which is extremely difficult! My prognosis for cutting scores: Gold >=29 Silver >=26 Bronze =>21

HM >=17

I can’t remember the exact scores, but ithink they’re sth near to: Gold: 25 Silver: 22 Bronze: 17

HM: 14.

Soarer: What you quoted seems to be the cutting scores in Hong Kong. They are different from the official cutting scores. The official cutting scores should be (if I remember correctly) +1, +1/3 and –1/3 (in terms of standard scores of the best 10 students in each country/region. The “cutting score” for HM is “reasonably good performance in at least once question”… something like that….

Kahoo,
Indeed I was talking about the performance of HK students last year…. and I don’t know how the official cutting scores are set before i read your msg… thx..

我想問一下,一個F.3的學生去APMO是不是太不自量力???
(當時我d同班同學報左,我唔報好似好 ……但現在估計我到時唔交白卷已經好好 )

Absolutely agree. By the way here is another interesting question: Which arrangements of problems do you dislike most? Below is the one I dont like most: 1. Combinatorics 2. Miscellaneous 3. Number Theory 4. Inequality 5. Geometry

Anyway, there may also be combinatorial geometry, geometric inequality and non-ineqaulity algebra…

for me, algebra and inequalities are separated. At olympiad lvl, inequalities are hard and nice enough to be separated from algebra
